TripAdvisor has done a list of the Top 10 dirtiest hotels.  Read the reviews.  They are just priceless.  Anyone want to fess up to staying at the Eden Roc Motel in Wildwood?  I ALWAYS consult TripAdvisor when booking hotels.  It has not steered me wrong yet!

Writer's strike coming to an end?

Here's some positive news!  I love Mad Men, so I am happy that we will see it again this summer.  If you did not watch it, I highly, highly recommend it.  Well written, well-acted, all around great show.  Compelling in the same way that I found Sopranos compelling in the beginning.  No big surprise that the head writer is one of the Sopranos writers.

More house buying woes...

I need to stay off of the "Buying a Home" board.  There is one girl on there asking about a new build where with the upgrades, she would pay $300K.  She's hesitating.  Amazing!  In this area, if I could find a new build with upgrades for that price, well, I would not have time to write this entry.  I'd be too busy packing my boxes to go to my beautiful new house!!!

I should hang in the San Fran boards.  Those houses are even more expensive than ours!

Sadness in the world

Benazir Bhutto is dead.   She's been murdered.  This region has been in a state of volatility for many, many years.  Pakistan has never been peaceful, but this is going to make things even worse.  Here is a country that has harbored many terrorists over the years that is only going to get worse.

I actually feel like crying.  I fear for what it means for my relatives in India.  These two countries have nukes and there is NO love lost there.

So me!!!!

What The Holidays Mean to You

For you, the holidays are about celebration. You enjoy all the fun and fellowship that the holidays bring.

You celebrate the holidays in a offbeat style. You believe the holidays are for doing whatever you feel like - and some of your "traditions" are pretty wacky.

During the holidays, you feel happily busy. There's so much do to and not a lot of time to do it. But you enjoy every minute of your holiday chores.

You think the holidays should be nostalgic and sweet. The holidays bring out your inner child.

Your best holiday memories are of childhood foods and traditions. You secretly still wish you believed in Santa Claus.

I did it...

Kill somebody
I added Showtime.  I will be able to watch "Dexter" tonight at 11PM.  Stupid Cablevision makes you pay extra for OnDemand, so I will have to wait to watch it.  I have not been obsessed with a TV show like this in a long time!

Dexter

Kill somebody
Dexter is my new favorite show.  Joe and I have been obsessed.  We do not have Showtime and we saw the entire first season on DVD from Netflix.  I found out that my mom has Showtime, so we spent last night watching the five episodes that have aired for this season and now I am in major withdrawal.  I know the newest episode is on tonight and we cannot see it.  I think I am going to add Showtime this week.  (Just kidding!  I know we are saving for  house!)  I guess we will be up at my mom's house every weekend to watch each new show On Demand.

If you can, I highly suggest that you get the first season and watch it.  It's well written and well acted.  I truly believe that there is no justice in the Emmy world until Michael C. Hall wins one!

Spending habits of the stars....

What the hell?
Britney's spending habits scare me.   I truly think we are going to hear about her being found dead in her house someday.  She's on such a self destructive tear and there is no hope in sight for this woman.

Twenty years ago!!

In the 80's
I just had to share this.  Exactly 20 years ago today I saw Bon Jovi in concert for the first time.  My father took me and made me take my little brother instead of my best friend.  It was at the Continental Airlines Arena (then, the Brendan Byrne Arena) in New Jersey and Keel opened up.  We had the WORST seats.  I can't believe I actually remember this!  I still have the ticket stub and still have the program and t-shirts I purchased with my saved up allowance money.  It still seems like yesterday....

I wish!!!!!

Your Superpower Should Be Mind Reading

You are brilliant, insightful, and intuitive.
You understand people better than they would like to be understood.
Highly sensitive, you are good at putting together seemingly irrelevant details.
You figure out what's going on before anyone knows that anything is going on!

Why you would be a good superhero: You don't care what people think, and you'd do whatever needed to be done

Your biggest problem as a superhero: Feeling even more isolated than you do now

Must be a slow news day....

This article is so odd and shows the backwards thinking of some pro-life groups.  I think they just like to protest.  Let's break it down:

1) The abortion clinic was closed due to violations and never re-opened.
2) There is a person who is interested in buying and running the clinic.
3) The current owner has no plans on selling, much less to the interested buyer, for very good reasons.
4) The state has received no application for the sale of the property.
5) Yet, the protesters think that this worth their time.

If the owner of the property is not interested in selling to this alleged less-than-scrupulous doctor and the state has not received any applications for the sale, what is there to protest?  Seems as though you have won this battle!

Sometimes, it's the little things...

Girls Night Out
I just had a long conversation with my BF and we just chatted about everything under the sun.  Complained about husbands, cooed about her son, bitched about MIL's, gossiped about mutual friends, etc.  It was just so nice to have a conversation with her that did not revolve around my wedding or anything stressful.  We made plans to have dinner next week.  Sometimes, you just need a nice long conversation with a good girlfriend and it seems like there are no worries in the world.

Joe won't be home until late tonight.  It's almost 8 and I still have not had dinner.  It's too farking hot!  Joe has a point in that we need to have something for lunch tomorrow so we don't have to buy.  I suggested that maybe I should run out for some lunchmeat and just make myself a sandwich tonight.  Honestly, I know we are supposed to be not eating out and saving money, but I really do not feel like doing anything but ordering some Chinese food.

Decisions, decisions....

The Namesake

I just finished The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri.  All I can say is WOW!  This book is a great illustration of what I went thru growing up as a 1st generation child of an immigrant family. Though, technically, i am not a 1st generation b/c I was born in India.  I could completely relate the main character.  I know that I am a bit late on this book b/c it was published in 2003.  The movie is playing in limited theaters, so I will have to wait until it gets released on DVD.

The overly religious

  • Jun. 27th, 2007 at 4:34 PM
Angry!
I am going to rant about it here b/c i don't want to do it on the knot.  It's a posting on the South Asian boards.  This poor girl actually converts to her fiancee's religion, but requests that along with the nikah ceremony, there also be a civil ceremony.  Of course, his overly religious family freaks out and now that poor girl is in a place very familiar to me.

I just don't understand the overly religious AT ALL!!!  Do they really think the God as they understand it would be proud of them making someone else feel like shit?  Does being religious like that put some sort of blinders on you to the point you do not recognize the world around you?  I have always been rather spirtual and I believe that God is watching and you should live your life by the Golden Rule.  Clearly, if you become overly religious, that no longer applies.  You can treat those who do not agree with your beliefs like pieces of crap b/c that's exactly what they are.

Okay, rant over.  I needed to get that out.  Now, maybe I can reply to her post nicely, calmly.

Here are some of the professional pictures.  He actually gave me 1077 proofs, but I only put up a few here so as not bore people.  These are a pretty good representation of my dresses, the details and the work of the photographer, John Arcara.

I would love to know what you think!

Remodeling, remodeling, remodeling

We currently live in a duplex where we have a tenant on one side and we live in the other.  We plan on using this property to borrow against to get a downpayment on our future home.  We recently go pre-approved for a mortgage that I believe it way too high for us, but the mortgage specialist assures us that we can afford it.  She is not making a dime off of us b/c she has earned so much business off of my mother in law over the years, that she does our mortgages for free.  She did Joe's original mortgage and his re-fi on this house for free.  So, I know she has no reason to sell us a bigger mortgage than we can afford.

So, we need to ready this part of the house for a future tenant.  First project, remodelling the only bathroom in the house.  We are in the process of getting estimates.  My mom remodeled her bathroom for about $7K and got all top of the line things.  We are not going to replace the tub (neither did she), but EVERYTHING else will have to go.  I think tonight, we are going to look at some vanities for the bathroom in Home Depot and Lowe's.  I doubt we will go top of the line if we are putting tenants there.  Just sturdy and nice.

I think this is going to be a challenge of the marriage considering that we have only one bathroom in the house.

Long time...no post

I've been trying to get back into regular life after the honeymoon and stuff.  Honeymoon went well.  I loved Italy!  The Amalfi Coast is absolutely beautiful.

The professional pics are back and they are beautiful!  I have 1077 proofs to go through now.  I will try to upload some to LJ when I actually have time.

Louise has been suprisingly pleasant.  She's away right now.  We got to use her shore house on LBI last weekend "unsupervised."  It was awesome, but of course, she was weird about it.  If my mom had a house like that, she would let us use freely and at any time it was not rented.  Louise is so weird about it.  No one is allowed to sleep in her room, but she rents the place out!!!  She told us all that it was rented beginning this weekend, but Joe and I think she is lying.  If you are going to LBI this weekend, let me know.  I want someone to check it out for me.  There were too many indications that there were no tenants coming.  Her sheets were still on the bed, the dumbwaiter (where she stores her good booze) was unlocked, all of her personal stuff was all over the master bathroom, the room in the garage where she stores stuff she does not want tenants touching was unlocked, her picture frames were all out, etc.

Works has been crazy.  I need to get back.
